The Vikings use Cap Room to sign big name free agents and also sign the players they drafted. Some ways they have Cap Room is by releasing players or giving players short term deals like a 1 or 2 year deal not a long term deal which can range up to 3-7 years and usually includes millions of dollars which ranges from 15 million – 100 million. The reason they use a lot of their Cap Room is so that they sign big money players like when they signed their 1st round draft pick in 2007 Adrian Peterson who was given a 7 year deal with 55 million dollars and 15 million guaranteed. Some reason they sign free agents is to fill spots that are empty because they released players. Earlier this month the Vikings released 3 all-pro players they released Guard Steve Hutchinson who signed with the Tennessee Titans and other Guard Anthony Herrera (still free agent) plus they released Cornerback Cedric Griffin who signed with the Washington Redskins. They have released some really good players at times like Randy Moss and Daunte Culpepper but they made up for it by trading for Bernard Berrian and Drafting Percy Harvin in 2009. Last year the Vikings rookie quarterback received a 4 year 25 million dollar deal with 6 million guaranteed. When they released all of the 3 players that I named they released earlier this month they now have 26 million dollars in Cap Room. To learn some of the Vikings draft history. Draft History
